Gold Flag FAQs updated

Q.  If I join the scheme, am I forced to bet each-way to standard terms on every race?
A.  No, you can bet win only if you wish.  However, when you do bet each-way, it must be at standard terms (or better).

Q. What does 'or better' mean in relation to standard terms?
A.  As a rule of thumb, place terms are considered better than standard if they: -

  • Pay on more places than standard terms while retaining the standard place fraction (e.g. 1/4 odds 1-2-3-4-5 in a 16-runner+ handicap);
  • Offer each-way betting when it would not normally be available under standard terms (e.g. 1/4 odds 1-2 in a 4-runner race); or
  • Pay on more places than standard terms while reducing the place terms by just one fraction (e.g. 1/5 odds 1-2-3-4-5 in a 16-runner+ handicap or 1/5 odds 1-2-3-4 in a 15-runner handicap)

Q.  If I join the scheme and then change my mind, can I withdraw?
A.  Yes.  Just let the BRM know that you wish to leave the scheme and hand in your flag to the BRM.

Q.  If I withdraw from the scheme, can I re-join at a later date?
A.  Yes, but you will need to wait three months.

Q.  If I don’t join the scheme at the outset, can I join later?
A.  Yes, you can join anytime just by sending an email to mainoffice@agt-ltd.co.uk.

Q.  Can I opt in and out of the scheme race-by-race or day-by-day?
A.  No, you must stick with the provisions of the scheme once you have applied.  Remember, you can opt out at any time.

Q.  What does the flag look like?
A.  It’s made of gold plastic, durable but lightweight.  It is attachable to the joint by slotting into clips (provided), in a similar way that the umbrella is held.  The flag itself (excluding the ‘stalk’) is approximately 6” square.  It sits directly on the top ledge of the joint.  It is usable on Rails and ring joints and should not affect use of umbrellas.

Q.  When and where will the flags be distributed?
A.  Details are not yet finalised but it is likely that they will be collectable on racecourses from 4 June 2010.

Q.  How much does each flag cost?
A.  They are free of charge, although a modest charge may be made for replacements.

Q.  Can I have more than one flag?
A.  Yes.  Please let AGT know how many flags you need, based on your biggest number of clashing meetings on a single raceday.  (Please do not order spares just for the sake of it.)

Q.  I don’t want to join the scheme but I’d like to display a similar flag.  Is that ok?
A.  No, the provisions of the scheme prevent you from displaying anything which approximates a gold flag or may give the impression that you are within the scheme.

Q.  Is this the brainchild of AGT?
A.  No, AGT played no part whatsoever in originating or developing the scheme.  We are acting as an information portal, at the request of Racing for Change and the RCA, as bookmakers naturally turn to us for information and support.

Q.  Who can I contact about the scheme?
A.  Comments should be directed to your local BPA in the first instance, and they will collate them and forward them to Racing for Change.
